William N. Spiker
Artist Resume
Bill Spiker’s art career, like his formal education, reflects two “personalities”: one centered around making art, the other driven by running business ventures. Although he majored in Economics at Ohio Wesleyan University, Bill also carried over 40 hours of studio art. After earning an MBA in Marketing from the University of Chicago, he combined his creative and analytical interests with a career in creative communication, namely advertising and graphic design.
He owned and ran Lyons Marketing Communications in Wilmington Delaware for 30 years. Lyons was a multi-faceted design company offering services in graphic design, advertising, photography, video productions and interactive internet sites. Bill sold the business in 2000 and returned to his alter ego as artist.
Bill Spiker has painted in watercolor & oil and sculpted in wood, plaster, plastic resin and welded steel. He has studied welded steel sculpture under Tai Pamora and Stan Smokler. His first gallery show as a sculptor was with Stan Smokler at Wilmington’s Blue Streak Gallery in June 2006. He has participated in group shows at The Blue Streak Gallery and Old City Philadelphia gallery Bruges. Bill had a one-man show at The John Kurtz New Moon Gallery in May 2009 and another in 2011 at Kurtz’s new gallery, The Kurtz Collection. In 2015 Bill was part of a three-artist event at ab&c and in 2016 had a one man show at The Mill that included paintings. Subsequent group shows followed at Blue Streak and Carspecken Galleries in 2017 and 2018 and Parrot Fish has been selected for a 2019 member’s show at The Delaware Contemporary.
In 2012 he won the Judges award, the top prize for sculpture, in the international exhibit of art, "Art Abilities" sponsored by Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital. Vulcan Steampunk was an award winner in 2018.
